Today fi-Plan Partners celebrates it's 5 year Anniversary. Greg Powell, President/CEO and Quint Cook, Senior Vice-President, knew changes were occurring in the financial industry that would directly affect their clients.
In order to continue truly placing their clients needs first, they decided they would leave the national firm and become an independent financial planning and wealth management organization. This move allowed them to focus on their portfolio and financial planning expertise and better guide their clients to achieving their dreams and goals.
Greg Powell reflects, “I am thankful everyday for the clients that believed in us and who moved their assets with us on February 18, 2005. At the time we may have looked like we were crazy for making that move, but today we celebrate with our clients that our forecast has proven to be well beyond our expectations. We believe in our clients and are so grateful they believe in us.”
“The freedom to better serve our clients over the last 5 years,” says Quint Cook,“has had a huge impact on those around us and with our abilities growing so much since 2005, you won’t believe what we have in store for the next 5.”
fi-Plan Partners and The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) hosted a group of business owners at Aldridge Botanical Gardens to discuss solutions that are vital to the success of their businesses.
Rosemary Elebash, State Director of the NFIB of Alabama started the Summit with updates on current State and Federal legislation affecting small business and how one vote has the power to change.
John Carl, President, Retirement Learning Center, LLC and Executive Director, PLANSPONSOR Institute, spoke on retirement options available to the small business owner.
Chris Davis, Director of Integrated Communications at fi-Plan Partners presented the basics of social media and the opportunities Facebook and Twitter creates for business owners to connect with existing as well as with new clients and customers.
Greg Powell, President/CEO and Wealth Advisor at fi-Plan Partners wrapped up the Summit by talking about the questions asked through his unique financial planning process, Your Financial House©, that addresses every financial aspect of your business and personal life.
The Birmingham News covered the Summit. You can read the article on the Birmingham News website here.

NFIB recognizes region and state Small Business Champion
Owning a business, satisfying customers and providing livelihoods for employees are not enough for the 2009 Solveras/NFIB Small Business Champions. For these NFIB member activists, business ownership is also about standing up for free enterprise and contributing their time, talent and resources to protecting the right to own, operate and grow a small business. They believe that an informed, educated, concerned and involved public is the ultimate safeguard for small business; and that honesty, integrity and respect for human and spiritual values are important in all aspects of life--and are essential to a sustaining a good work environment.NFIB recognized four region Small Business Champions, as well as champions in each of the 50 states. Greg Powell, CIMA
fi-plan Partners
Birmingham, Ala.Greg Powell left his corporate job in 2005 to use his experience and knowledge to start his own financial consulting business. Joining NFIB four years ago, Powell immediately saw the value of the organization and became involved in recruiting new members and raising funds for NFIB/Alabama’s political action committee--the Save America’s Free Enterprise (SAFE) Trust.
Promoting NFIB and its members is, for Greg, good business. Whether he’s advocating an NFIB position to a state legislator or helping his state director find out how Alabama’s small businesses are reacting to particular events or issues… Greg believes that NFIB membership is part of what helps small business owners create their own "declaration of independence."
For him, that means having the time to give back to his community and touching the lives around him. Greg is involved in causes ranging from promoting literacy in low-income communities to assisting special needs children and adults.

Sea of debt: Consumers caught between holiday bills and soaring credit card rates
By Roy L. Williams -- The Birmingham News
(Excerpt)
Every individual or married couple needs to sit down at the beginning of the year and evaluate how they spent money the previous year, not just for Christmas gifts, said Greg Powell, head of Fi-Plan Partners in Hoover.
"Critique yourself to make sure you don't make the same mistakes this year," he said. "Cut out excess spending, take advantage of sales and buy Christmas gifts throughout the year, not just before the holiday."

Greg Powell in The Birmingham News
"Investors left to ponder good economic news"
ROY L. WILLIAMS
News staff writerThe stock market's late summer run-up has some investors wondering: have stocks hit bottom and is a recovery under way?
Some Birmingham-area financial planners say they are hearing that question from a lot of clients, who are asking whether it is safe to put their money back in the stock market. They say it is too soon to say, and point to Friday's 76-point decline - the biggest daily drop in five weeks - as a sign.
"Clients in general are still leery of the market, but there is a slow-growing number who are moving back in because this is really a great time to dollar-cost-average into the market," said Melvin Smith, a planner with First Financial Group of the South.
Greg Powell, head of Hoover's Fi-Plan Partners, believes the market is due for another fall due to lingering problems such as unemployment rates at a 24-year high and continued bank losses related to bad loans.
"I think we could see another market correction over the next 90 to 120 days as foreclosures keep going up and the commercial real estate market begins to implode," Powell said. "A lot of banks that took TARP money aren't being allowed to return it because I believe the government believes things will get worse before they get better."

Greg Talks With Governor Bob Riley About Affordable Health Insurance
Greg was recently asked to sit with Governor Bob Riley and five other business owners at a round table discussion on the high and rising cost of health insurance. The governor asked the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB) to select successful business owners from its membership to sit with the governor and give their insight concerning affordable healthcare.
The governor stated that he knows the rising cost of healthcare prevents small businesses from expanding, having a positive impact on the community, and from taking care of their employees. In an effort to change this, Governor Riley took notes as he listened to the round table participants discuss their experience with providing healthcare for their employees and share their concerns.
Greg was interviewed by Channel 13 NBC on the subject of healthcare and small businesses before the event. Afterwards the governor spoke with Greg, thanked him for attending and for his valuable input.
